Contemporary house in a residential area
Project Background
This is one of those projects that is particularly interesting because of the constraints of the site and budget. Our design team seem to relish the challenge of designing within constraints.
Even though the site is in a residential road in Sevenoaks, Kent, our client wanted to create a home that was rather more inspiring than those around it and packed a lot into a relatively small space.
When we first met the client, he was still in the process of buying the property, none the less he was eager to press on with the initial Project Appraisal to assure himself that he could get the house that he wanted on the site. Once this was complete, the conveyancing had progressed far enough for him to have confidence to proceed to a full planning application.
The House
In a gross internal floor area of just 150m2 the house packs a lot in, as well as having some really interesting features. The ground floor comprises an open plan kitchen, living and dining space, a utility room, WC and study as well as a guest bedroom.
A central staircase sits within the main open plan living area and has an oak frame structure around it. The first floor comprises the master bedroom, a second guest bedroom and a family bathroom.
The external materials of brick, cladding and render will give the house a fresh, contemporary look. The bi-fold doors from the central living space will give great visual and physical connection to the garden which sits adjacent to a large lake.
Progress
Planning permission has been granted for this contemporary house.
