Traditional Family Home with a Contemporary Twist
Our client first approached us to look at adding an extension to their existing house. However, after some initial exploration of options they decided a knock down and rebuild would be a better solution.
Situated down a long private drive in the Shropshire countryside, this four-bedroom family home combines a traditional dual pitch form and oak features with a contemporary twist. The rooms on the back-elevation benefit from large expanses of glazing with far reaching views over the countryside.
What has emerged from the design process is a well-proportioned house which makes very efficient use of space, with little lost to circulation. Internal oak features are focused in the main areas of the house to bring character without excessive cost. External walls will be largely rendered on a brick plinth, with some externally exposed oak and areas of glazing directly on to oak frame.
Unlike most of our clients who want us to work with them throughout their project, this client works in the construction industry and wants to use some of his own staff and plant. Additionally, he will be project managing a range of sub-contractors himself.
He has appointed us to develop the design, get planning permission and produce a comprehensive construction package that the sub-contractors will rely on for accurate pricing and for undertaking the construction.
We have recently been granted planning permission for this project.
